At the start of the coming season, the Berlin Football Association, together with KickIn!advice center for inclusion and diversity in socceris initiating the "SprachKick Footwork" project. The project focuses on the topic of discrimination-sensitive language and how clubs can promote a more respectful approach to each other in their training sessions. To this end, volunteer coaches and club activists can attend four free SprachKick workshops on discrimination-sensitive language (two in fall 2025, two in spring 2026). Participants will learn the basics and logic behind exclusion through language so that they can safely integrate diversity-sensitive alternatives into everyday club life.
The central element is the "Footwork" project group, in which committed coaches from Berlin clubs jointly develop training units in which their players playfully deal with topics such as discrimination and exclusion. These approaches are then prepared in a train-the-trainer format and in a game so that they can be sustainably implemented and passed on within the clubs. In this way, the BFV wants to anchor discrimination-sensitive action even more firmly throughout Berlin amateur soccer in the long term and support club representatives with practical tools for everyday use.
Cooperation that includes everyone
"Language shapes and connects. But language can also exclude. With 'SprachKick', we want to underline the importance of language in soccer and provide our clubs with practical tools. In this way, we not only promote fairness on the pitch, but also a togetherness that involves everyone," says Saskia Kriese, Violence Prevention & Project Manager FAIReint at the BFV.
"With Footwork, we want to jointly train multipliers in the Berlin soccer environment, teach discrimination-sensitive language in a playful way and anchor the topic sustainably in the club landscape," adds Solvejg Wolfers-Pommerenke, Coordination Qualifications and Services, KickIn!
This year's workshops will take place in the fall, on September 25 and November 20 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm. Interested clubs and coaches can register now.
