By the time of the 2024 European Championship at home, 4650 clubs from all over Germany had already taken part in the DFB points game, representing almost 20% of all clubs. Together, they submitted and implemented an impressive 22,382 measures, thus promoting club life in the long term. This figure is now set to be significantly exceeded once again.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, DFB Vice President Peter Frymuth, DFB Sports Director Rudi Völler and national playerCarlotta Wamserfrom Bayer 04 Leverkusen will kick off the second round of the DFB Points Match on Monday, August 25, as part of the opening event on the sports field of the district league club FC Grenzwacht Hürtgen from the Middle Rhine Football Association.
Neuendorf: "A complete success"
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, who once played for Grenzwacht Hürtgen himself, said: "Amateur soccer also benefited from our inspiring home EURO last year - thanks in part to tailor-made measures such as the DFB Points Match, which we successfully implemented in cooperation with our regional associations. This campaign to strengthen club life was a complete success. To ensure that this commitment to the grassroots has a lasting effect, we are continuing it in the DFB's anniversary year."
Peter Frymuth, DFB Vice President for Match Operations and Football Development, explained: "The DFB and its regional associations offer a wide range of opportunities for club development and volunteer training, which many clubs are already taking advantage of. During the points game for the home European Championship, we noticed that the connection with this competition is motivating many clubs to get even more involved. We want to support and motivate our clubs, especially in the 125th anniversary year, so that they are well positioned for the future."
Völler: "Strengthen clubs at the grassroots level"
DFB Sports Director Rudi Völler says: "Almost every career of an international player begins in an amateur club. That's not the only reason why we need to strengthen the clubs at grassroots level and support the great voluntary work of the people on the ground. The DFB Points Match is a wonderful opportunity to do this. Last year, I experienced for myself how a district league team trained with us at the DFB Campus, in the end even together with the national team on one pitch. That was a highlight for everyone."
Amateur clubs can contact their club representatives again atpunktespiel.dfb.deand get an overview of the activities and prizes, as well as get started immediately and collect points. Important: For tax reasons, proof of non-profit status is required for the awarding of prizes. The DFB points game website lists the measures from the three categories of club development, qualification and match operations and soccer offers, for the implementation of which 10, 25 or 50 points can be collected. Even smaller activities, such as a notice on the clubhouse to attract new referees or a visit from a DFB mobile, can increase the number of points. The bigger the activity, the more points the clubs can earn.
In the online overview, clubs can see what score they have achieved and what measures they can still implement to move up in the ranking. Those who achieve bronze, silver, gold and the newly introduced platinum status in the DFB points game will win guaranteed prizes such as a training package (mini goals, balls and shirts) or a technical package (speakers and TV set). In addition, there is the newly introduced starter level, which provides a ball package for the clubs shortly after the first successfully tested measure. Clubs participating in the DFB Points Match will receive the starter package plus the guaranteed prize package of the highest level they achieve. The main prizes will be raffled off among all clubs from the Gold and Platinum levels at the end of the points game. The DFB Points Game runs until August 31, 2026.
