Creation of a child protection concept

Ideally, a sports club should be a place where all members feel safe and in good hands when it comes to their sporting activities. However, because sexual or interpersonal assaults in various forms unfortunately do not stop at the reality of our sports clubs, the creation of protection concepts is particularly important as a preventative measure. Specifically, this involves necessary risk analysis more tangible for sports clubs and to streamline the associated writing process.

The DFB therefore provides all clubs with a leaflet on the creation of a child protection concept as a download as well as various further links.

Information on private and individual training for children and young people

Over 70,000, or almost a third, of the members of the Berlin Football Association are children and young people. The importance of protecting this group is correspondingly high. Minors are often unable to look after themselves and are therefore dependent on safe environments.

Clear rules and protection standards play a decisive role, especially in additional forms of training such as private and individual training. In its publication "Information for legal guardians and clubs on private and individual training" the BFV explains key risks, recommendations and measures from the perspective of child and youth protection. The PDF offers a transparent insight into the requirements for coaches, legal guardians and clubs.

This document serves to inform and sensitize all parties involved in order to protect children and young people in sport in the best possible way. The BFV is aware that private and individual training sessions take place for children and young people, and would like to do its part to ensure that these sessions are safe and free from any transgressions. Private and individual training sessions can only take place at all if coaches, parents and clubs work together to ensure safe conditions and the protection of children and young people can be guaranteed.

Extended police clearance certificate

In April 2009, a registration requirement was introduced for all active coaches in the BFV. This stipulates that Berlin soccer clubs must obtain a current extended police clearance certificate from all persons of legal age in the club who are involved with young people.

Berlin Football Association as a role model

The Berlin Football Association is leading by example and, since May 1, 2010, has required a check of the personal suitability of all honorary and full-time staff by presenting an extended certificate of good conduct.

Application

Simply copy the text onto the association's letterhead, hand it to the volunteer and then use it to apply for the extended certificate of good conduct at the Bürgeramt.

Apply for a police clearance certificate online

Previously, certificates of good conduct had to be applied for in person at the Citizens' Office in Berlin. Now this is also possible online via the Internet portal of the Federal Office of Justice. Applicants only need a new ID card with an activated online function and a card reader. As only a few private households have a card reader, larger associations could purchase such a device centrally for their volunteers so that applicants can apply for the extended police clearance certificate via the association.

Payment can be made either by credit card or giropay. If there is an entitlement to exemption from fees, such as in the case of voluntary work for a non-profit association, the relevant proof can be scanned and then uploaded. If the person making the application does not have an electronic ID card, they will still need to go to the Citizens' Registration Office.

Further information on applying for an extended police clearance certificate can be foundhere.

Costs

The application for an extended certificate of good conduct is free of charge for volunteers with a corresponding note on the certificate.
