DFB U19 futsal base
Futsal (Portuguese: futebol de salão or Spanish: fútbol sala = indoor soccer) is the international indoor football variant of FIFA and is played in 5 versus 5 on a futsal pitch with a futsal ball specially made for the indoor floor and optimized for jumping. Back in the 1930s, Uruguayan sports teacher Juan Carlos Ceriani developed the "little game of soccer" in 5 versus 5 especially for children. Instead of the boards, playing field lines are used as field boundaries. Futsal first developed in South America before quickly spreading across the globe. Due to its simplicity and dynamism, futsal is now very popular in many parts of the world. Some of the world's greatest footballers, such as Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho, also started out playing futsal. (Source: DFB.de)
