"Footballer of the season 24/25": Professional player and amateur coach chosen

From June 10 to July 2, 2025, Berliners voted for their "Footballer of the Season 2024/2025". A total of around 14,000 people took part in the online vote, which the Berlin Football Association has been organizing together with the Fußball-Woche and LOTTO Berlin since 2011.

Fabian Reese (Hertha BSC) and Karsten Heine (BSV Eintracht Mahlsdorf) took first place in this year's vote for "Berlin Professional Footballer of the Season" and "Berlin Amateur Coach of the Season". They came out on top in their respective voting categories out of eight nominees each.

Berlin professional footballer of the 2024/2025 season: Fabian Reese

With 51.7% of the votes, Berliners voted Fabian Reese from Hertha BSC as their "Professional Footballer of the Season". Frederik Rönnow (1. FC Union, 18.8 percent) and Ibrahim Maza (Hertha BSC, 10.6 percent) followed in second and third place.

Despite a long injury break, which meant that Reese only made 18 appearances in the second division last season, the 27-year-old defended his title as Berlin's best professional. With eleven goals and one assist, he ranked third on Hertha's internal scorer list behind Derry Scherhant and Michael Cuisance (13 scorers each) despite his limited playing time. This means that Reese has scored two more goals than in the previous season, when he was on the pitch 31 times.

Fabian Reese says: "The Footballer of the Season award is a great honor - and to receive it a second time makes me particularly proud. At the same time, it's also a credit to our team. Last season wasn't always easy, but we grew as a team and I'm proud to be part of this development. This city has given me an incredible amount and I will try to give back as much as possible this year."

Berlin amateur coach of the 2024/2025 season: Karsten Heine

Karsten Heine from BSV Eintracht Mahlsdorf wins the vote for "Berlin amateur coach of the season" with 29.1% of the votes. His colleagues Robert Schröder (FC Hertha 03, 27.1 percent) and Miren Catovic (FC Viktoria Berlin Frauen, 16.0 percent) took second and third place.

Even though Eintracht Mahlsdorf narrowly and unfortunately missed out on the possible titles in the NOFV-Oberliga Nord (2nd place, one point behind BFC Preussen) and the COSY-WASCH State Cup for 1st men (0:2 final defeat against BFC Dynamo), they will remember a brilliant 2024/2025 season in which Heine played a major role. This is the 70-year-old's third title as "Berlin amateur coach: in the season". He previously achieved this in the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons - both as head coach at VSG Altglienicke.

Karsten Heine says: "I'm delighted and would like to thank everyone who voted for me. My thanks also go to my great coaching team and my super team. Such an appreciation is always the cooperation of many - I don't put these pants on alone".
