Over the past few days, the Berlin Football Association and Frohnauer SC have discussed the current situation (match evaluations in connection with the 5th yellow card) in detail. There is agreement that the current regulation on the counting of yellow cards across competitions has led to uncertainties in practical implementation. In particular, the limited displayability in DFBnet presents clubs with additional challenges on a day-to-day basis.
At the same time, the existing match regulations assign responsibility for checking eligibility to the clubs. This legal basis will remain in place until the end of the season.
Andreas Weiner, sporting director of Frohnauer SC, says: "We respect the decision and will live with the consequences - but we don't agree with it. For us, this is not an isolated case, but an expression of a structural problem that affects many clubs. The current situation at least gives the impression of unequal treatment, as comparable constellations are only sanctioned when appeals are lodged - even though the problem has already occurred over several seasons. While the proceedings before the sports court were decided at short notice, the decision of the association court took over three months and is now having a direct impact on the decisive phase of the season. We would have liked an earlier clarification here. Frohnauer SC stands for open dialog and transparent communication. For us, this also includes fair dealings between the clubs - knowledge should be shared and not only used afterwards to take advantage. It is now crucial to work together to create clear, transparent and reliable solutions for all clubs."
Common goal
"We want solutions that make match operations reliable, transparent and volunteer-friendly," says Joachim Gaertner, BFV Presidential Member for Match Operations. For this reason, an adjustment has already been initiated: From the 2026/2027 season, the championship and cup are to be scored separately again so that suspensions can be clearly and automatically displayed in DFBnet in the future. A corresponding motion has already been submitted by the Match Committee.
Gaertner continued: "Until then, we are relying on an open exchange, clear communication and mutual support in the interests of our shared soccer. Team Berlin also means solving challenges together."
