Nike Youth Cup: Sunny hours in the Poststadion

After Hertha 03 Zehlendorf's A-Juniors had kicked off this year's Nike Youth Cup finals with their routine victory over Tasmania Berlin at the same venue the day before(see review), the B-, C- and D-Juniors played their cup finals at the Poststadion on Ascension Day, May 29, 2025. In front of around 2,900 spectators, the teams from Viktoria Berlin (D juniors), Hertha BSC (C juniors) and Tennis Borussia Berlin (B juniors) prevailed and can therefore call themselves Berlin Cup winners.

Viktoria's U13s win with aplomb

The D-juniors kicked off the cup final day. Viktoria Berlin's U13s faced Hertha BSC's U12s, who had put in consistently strong performances against older teams over the course of the season. Viktoria were determined and eager to play right from the start. Maximilian Ferdinand Boss put his team ahead in the 6th minute. Just six minutes later, he scored his brace after a fine assist from Adrian Lisovets. Viktoria kept the pressure on, but missed several good chances in the ensuing period. Hertha had their first clear chance to score in the 16th minute, but were unlucky. At half-time, the score was deservedly 2:0 for Viktoria and their coach Daniel Parker.

Viktoria continued to dominate in the second half, with Boss finally setting the course for victory with his third goal. The final goal was scored by Adrian Lisovets, who scored after an assist from Linus Lehné to make the final score 4:0. Both teams were traditionally celebrated at the award ceremony. Goalscorer Lisovets was also named "Man of the Match" for his performance.

Hertha BSC with a successful mission: title defense

Last year's winners Hertha BSC faced Hertha 03 Zehlendorf in the C-Juniors final. After 16 minutes, Luan Schulz scored the deserved 1:0 for the "old lady" after a strong combination, whereupon Zehlendorf coach Erik Kossatz responded with a triple substitution. Fakouman Kaourouma scored again after 21 minutes to make it 2:0 after a neat assist from playmaker Julian-Maxime Wenta.

In the second half, Hertha BSC continued the strong performance of the first half. Zehlendorf keeper Emil Schubert continued to be tested frequently and was able to save several chances. However, he was powerless in the 50th minute: "Man of the Match" Kaourouma crowned his strong performance with a fantastic solo run across half the pitch, winning his dribbles against Zehlendorf's defense and scoring in the far corner to make it 3:0. In the 66th minute, Julian-Maxime Wenta benefited from an individual mistake by Zehlendorf and scored to make it 4:0.

Intense cup match between TeBe and Staaken

In the final match of the day, the B-juniors of SC Staaken and Tennis Borussia Berlin faced each other. Staaken showed more presence in the opponent's penalty area at the beginning, but TeBe defended cleverly and with great commitment. The best chance up to that point came from Tennis Borussia: In the 31st minute, Emmanuel Sörensen positioned himself well, but was unable to control the ball and put it over the goal. As the game progressed, TeBe got into the game better and better and created some good attacking moves.

After the break, Tennis Borussia increasingly took command. In the 43rd minute, Chris-Calvin Bessambo gave the purple-and-whites a deserved lead with a well-placed shot. But Staaken were unimpressed: They equalized just a few minutes later through Caue Mundy Machado (52'). A thrilling duel ensued: Danny Connolly first hit the aluminum, then took advantage of the chaos after a corner kick and made it 2:1 in the 55th minute. In the 66th minute, it was Kadir Mujkovic who took advantage of the situation after a resting ball and made it 3:1. The match remained competitive until the final minutes, but TeBe defended consistently and did not let anything else get in the way. Both teams were celebrated for their performances at the subsequent award ceremony. TeBe captain Chris-Calvin Bessambo was also named "Man of the Match".
