BFV statement on the COSY-WASCH national cup final

Dear Team Berlin,

The COSY-WASCH State Cup Final of the 1st Men 2026 was a special day for Berlin soccer. We would like to congratulate VSG Altglienicke on winning the cup and thank both finalists, the many volunteers, the employees in all areas involved and the numerous fans in the Mommsenstadion.

At the same time, we received critical feedback after the final. This related in particular to the quality of the pitch, the catering and individual organizational and technical processes surrounding the match day.

We take this feedback seriously.

A cup final is the biggest stage for amateur soccer in Berlin. Our aim is to offer clubs, fans, partners and all those involved a setting that does justice to this occasion. In some areas, we have not succeeded in doing this to the extent that we ourselves expect.

It is important for us to be open about this: Despite intensive preparation, numerous consultations and specific requirements for various parties involved, organizational challenges could not be resolved satisfactorily during the course of the event.

This is another reason why we, as organizers, see it as our responsibility to comprehensively review the events.

The Berlin Football Association will soon begin a structured evaluation together with the clubs involved, the responsible offices of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district and other partners involved. The aim is to objectively assess the events, transparently follow up on procedures and draw concrete conclusions for future events.

In particular, the focus will be on

  • the general conditions in the stadium and on the pitch,
  • the organizational procedures on match day
  • the catering for spectators,
  • and the cooperation between all the trades and partners involved.

We are aware that many fans are also expressing their criticism clearly because they want a final that does justice to the importance of this competition in every respect. We expressly share this concern.

Until the joint evaluation has been completed, we will not publicly engage in any premature finger-pointing. Once the talks have been concluded, the BFV will provide transparent information about the results and the measures derived from them.

Soccer in Berlin thrives on passion, voluntary work and shared responsibility. It is precisely in this spirit that we want to process the feedback from this year's final.
