Berlin U15 doubles against Westphalia

From April 7 to 10, 2026, the U15 selection of the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia (FLVW) visited the capital. As part of the visit, two high-class matches were played against the Berlin selection in the Volksparkstadion Mariendorf. The matches were played three times for 25 minutes each. The matches had a high sporting value, as the Westphalia selection included players from Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04 and VfL Bochum.

Better ending for Berlin

In a first match that was evenly matched from the outset, the BFV selection was made up exclusively of players from the two youth academies of Hertha BSC and 1. FC Union Berlin. The team from Westphalia took an early lead: after a corner kick, the visitors scored a spectacular overhead kick to make it 1-0, but Berlin was unimpressed and equalized. The Berlin team then took the lead twice with two spectacular goals, but Westfalen showed great qualities and equalized both times.

A fast-paced and attractive game then developed on the large pitch with chances on both sides. In the final phase, Westfalen pressed for the winning goal, but ran into a Berlin counter-attack in which the hosts scored the final goal with a precise shot into the corner to make the final score 4:3 for Berlin.

Westphalia ice-cold

In the second game, Berlin used players from Berlin's amateur clubs. Westphalia were clearly determined to take home a win and began with a lot of pressure. The Berlin team countered with great commitment and a lot of willingness to run, but had to accept that the visitors had more chances as the game progressed. Westphalia made consistent use of their opportunities and deservedly took the lead. Although Berlin also created a few scoring opportunities as the game progressed, they were unable to convert them. In the end, the Westphalian side ran out 3:0 winners.

Association sports coach Rudy Raab and assistant coach Roberto Luzardo were generally satisfied with the Berlin team's performance. Raab summarized: "We were able to give some new players the chance to show themselves on both days. I particularly liked the courageous style of play in all phases of the game. Adapting to large grass pitches is a real challenge for our artificial turf players."

Players from the following clubs took part: Hertha BSC, 1. FC Union Berlin, BFC Dynamo, Hertha 03 Zehlendorf, SC Staaken, SFC Stern 1900, Tennis Borussia Berlin and Viktoria Berlin
