From July 1 to 31, 2026, Berliners voted for their soccer players of the season 2025–2026. In total, more than 7,000 people took part in the online vote, which the Berlin Soccer Association has been conducting since 2011 in collaboration with LOTTO Berlin and the Fußball-Woche . Eight candidates were nominated in each of the following categories: professional female soccer player, professional male soccer player, amateur female soccer player, amateur male soccer player, and amateur soccer coach.

Berlin’s Professional Female Soccer Player of the 2025/2026 Season: Lisa Heiseler

With 40.6 percent of the vote, Berliners elected Lisa Heiseler of the women’s Bundesliga club 1. FC Union as their “Professional Female Soccer Player of the Season.” This was the first time the new category was open for voting; in the past, amateur and professional players had competed in the combined category “Berlin Soccer Player of the Season.” Anna Weiß (1. FC Union Berlin; 12.8 percent) and Nina Ehegötz (FC Viktoria Berlin; 10.9 percent) took second and third place, respectively.

In her debut season in Germany’s top-flight league, Lisa Heiseler played in all 26 league matches and, as captain, led the Union women’s team to a ninth-place finish in the standings. With eight goals and two assists, the midfielder also shone as her team’s top scorer and assist provider. The 28-year-old was first named “Berlin Female Soccer Player of the Season” during the 2017–2018 season; in last year’s vote, Heiseler finished in second place.

Berlin Professional Soccer Player of the 2025–2026 Season: Christopher Trimmel

A Union player also took the top spot in the vote for “Berlin Professional Soccer Player of the 2025/2026 Season”: Christopher Trimmel won the title with 22.1 percent of the vote, edging out his teammate Frederik Rönnow (19.8 percent) and Fabian Reese of Hertha BSC (14.6 percent), who had won the award the past two years.

For the captain of last season’s 11th-place team, this marks his second victory in the poll. In the 2019/2020 season, Trimmel was named Berlin’s Professional Soccer Player of the Season for the first time. The 39-year-old remained a regular starter in his twelfth season with Union Berlin and contributed three assists in 29 league appearances.

Union captain Christopher Trimmel says: “An award is always something special, so I’m very happy. Even though the past season didn’t always go as we’d hoped, I see this award as recognition for our entire team and its performances. Soccer is still a team sport, but as I said, this award means a great deal to me.”

Berlin Amateur Female Soccer Player of the 2025–2026 Season: Carla Okoro

The “Berlin Amateur Female Soccer Player of the Season” is Carla Okoro (1. FC Union Berlin U23; 46.1 percent). She edged out the past two years’ Player of the Season, Elfie Wellhausen (Hertha BSC; 11.8 percent), as well as Julie Mews (1. Eintracht Spandau; 10.3 percent), who finished in second and third place, respectively.

Okoro played a major role in helping her team finish the Regionalliga season in fourth place in the standings. In 17 appearances, the forward scored nine goals and set up three more. In November 2025, the longtime Berlin state team player also made her Bundesliga debut in the Union Women’s match against SV Werder Bremen.

Carla Okoro says: “When I heard about this award, I was absolutely thrilled. I wasn’t expecting it at all, and now I’m just very happy. It’s a great honor, and I’m grateful to all the people around me who made this possible and helped me get here: my coaches and my teammates.”

Berlin Amateur Soccer Player of the 2025/2026 Season: Sidney Friede

Delay Sports has named Sidney Friede the “Berlin Amateur Soccer Player of the 2025/2026 Season” (22.1 percent). Rounding out the top three are Dennis Bohnsack (Köpenicker FC; 17.1 percent) and Jonas Nietfeld (VSG Altglienicke; 14.6 percent).

With 40 goals and 13 assists in 24 league games, Friede was the dominant player of the past Bezirksliga season and led his team to direct promotion to the Landesliga. The 28-year-old is a co-founder of the club, which was established in July 2021, and has been part of the Delay Sports roster ever since. Friede’s career includes stints in professional soccer with teams such as Hertha BSC, SV Wehen Wiesbaden, and the Belgian club Royal Mouscron.

“Just doing what I love,” said Sidney Friede upon receiving his award.

Berlin Amateur Coach of the Season 2025/2026: Anja Matthes

A Union player also prevailed in the “Berlin Amateur Coach of the Season” vote: Anja Matthes secured the title for the U23 women’s team of 1. FC Union with 42.2 percent of the votes. Sanel Begzadic (Füchse Berlin Men’s 1st Team; 10.9 percent) and Dan Twardzik (VSG Altglienicke Men’s 1st Team; 10.3 percent) followed in second and third place.

Matthes is a Union veteran who has held various roles at the club for more than two decades. She has been the coach of the U23 women’s team since the 2023–2024 season, but previously coached the U17 girls’ team for several years. She led the U23 team from the Berlin-Liga to the Regionalliga Nordost, where they finished in a strong fourth place last season.

Berlin’s Amateur Coach of the Season, Anja Matthes, says: “I’m very happy about this award. Personally, my players are much more important to me than an individual honor. But of course, it’s a wonderful prize and definitely a reward for all the hard work we put in. Thank you very much!”
