They saved their teammate's life and became real role models: Baris Karadag, Marvin Plautz and Benedict Richter provided first aid for a teammate, saving the player's life. The three players from DJK Schwarz-Weiß Neukölln were honored by the BFV with the Fair Play Gesture of the Month for their exemplary efforts.
Showing initiative and saving lives
The incident occurred during the recent winter break. During a training session, trialist Akram Gachchem collapsed unconscious on the pitch. The three DJK players administered first aid and performed chest compressions and artificial respiration until the emergency doctor arrived. His condition remained critical for a further two days until the 24-year-old gradually began to recover. His teammates had saved the player's life with their immediate efforts.
For this "heroic act", Baris Karadag, Marvin Plautz and Benedict Richter were awarded the Fair Play Gesture of the Month by BFV Fair Play Officer Daniel Wissen and BFV Honorary Officer Ingo Büchner-Fenner. The award ceremony took place in the presence of the club's board of directors at the Britz-Süd stadium.
