In the last few days before the summer vacations, the BFV U19 women's national team completed a training course and test match against the regional league team from Türkiyemspor Berlin at the Wannsee Sports School. Last week, the best players born between 2007 and 2009 from Berlin, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Thuringia and Brandenburg came together in Osterburg in Saxony-Anhalt to compete against each other and at the same time have the opportunity to be selected for the U17 and U19 national teams.

U19 women end season at regional tournament in Osterburg
First match: Berlin 3:0 Saxony-Anhalt/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
In the first game, the Berlin team faced the joint team from Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, who play together in the U19 division. After five minutes of feeling things out, the Berliners took the initiative and created the first chances to score. A foul on Meliah resulted in a promising free-kick on the edge of the penalty area, which the fouled player took herself. The goalkeeper was unable to hold on to it, allowing striker Carla to score to make it 1:0. A short time later, the Berliners followed up a quick counter-attack via Evelina, who was able to set up Carla again. The latter got through with a hook and scored into the near corner to make it 2:0. Before the final 3:0, Berlin ran the ball over several stations and, after a shift to the right, Marike was able to get the ball to the second post, where Evelina this time finished herself.
Second game: Berlin 1:2 Thuringia
Berlin and Thuringia met on the second matchday, two teams that had both won their matches the day before. The players from both associations should know each other well by now, as the two state associations won the U16 regional tournament in 2023 and 2024 in close and competitive matches (0-0 in each case). The two teams also met in the fiercely contested regional cup in Duisburg, which Berlin won 2:1.
Berlin got off to a fast start and took the lead after just three minutes. Meliah passed to Kuni, who kept her cool in front of the goalkeeper and put the ball into the far corner with her left foot. Berlin then tried to add to their lead, but the Thuringians increasingly won more of the play, resulting in an even game. Midway through the second half, Thuringia capitalized on two quick attacks on the half-left flank, which led to two goals each. Berlin was no longer able to close the gap.
"This team was a real farewell gift for me"
Association sports coach Falko Grothe: "We can look back on a very successful U19 season and a good tournament. The players showed courage, enthusiasm and ambition and, despite the great diversity in terms of club, age group and selection experience, quickly grew together as a team and also developed individually in many areas. The team represented Berlin superbly. We would like to thank all the players in the squad for the season!"
Captain Layla: "The time at the BFV was something special for me, being able to compete with the best players of my age group year after year. This time not only shaped me as a player, but also as a person, and I'm grateful that I was able to crown it as captain of the U19s. At the final tournament, you could really feel how much this moment together meant to us, even though we lost 2:1 against Thuringia, we stood on the pitch as a team with joy, energy and real cohesion. This team with its fun, its loudness and this special passion was a real farewell present for me."
The regional tournament marks the 2007 age group's departure from the Berlin talent development program. The players* were provided by 1.FC Union Berlin, Hertha BSC, Türkiyemspor Berlin, Viktoria 1889 and AFC Wimbledon.
