Berlin U19 women impress twice

Last weekend, the Berlin U19 women's team was a guest in Hennef. Against the host, the Football Association Mittelrhein (FVM), Berlin was able to secure two victories and  had an all-round successful training course.

Early on Thursday morning, the bus set off from the Wannsee Sports School in the direction of Hennef - around 30 kilometers south-east of Cologne. The program included various training sessions, which primarily focused on the principles of play in the penalty area. The program was supplemented by a regeneration session in the pool and a soccer tennis tournament.

The highlights of the course were the two matches against the FVM. In the first match, which was still very warm on Friday evening, the opening phase was open without either team creating any major chances. In the second half, however, the Berliners became more proactive and were rewarded with the lead: Carla Okoro's shot in the penalty area was parried, but Evelina Tzatzo converted the rebound. Emilia Bewarder and Lucy Bacher increased the lead shortly afterwards with their first goals for the Berlin team. The final points were scored by Joana Tibus and Evelina Tzatzo again to make the final score 5:0.

In the second game, Berlin showed an early move towards the goal - Carla Okoro finally gave her team a deserved lead. Kuni Steinbock, Meliah Hartmann, Evelina Tzatzo and Carla Okoro scored again as the game progressed - only at the start of the second half did Berlin take a step back and concede a goal after a mistake in the build-up play. Nevertheless, the players were satisfied with the 5:1 final score.

Association sports coach Falko Grothe summed up: "We rate the course very positively: the conditions at the Hennef Sports School were outstanding as always, and we were also able to prevail in both games. A lot of respect goes to the players, who, despite the hot temperatures, went at maximum speed in every training session and in both games, brought a lot of energy onto the pitch and made the most of every minute of the course."

The players were sent off from 1. FC Union Berlin, Eintracht Mahlsdorf, Hertha BSC, RW Viktoria Mitte, Türkiyemspor Berlin and FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin.

The last event before the summer vacation for the U19 women will take place from 21-23 July at the Wannsee Sports School. The plan is to use the squad training course to fine-tune their skills for the upcoming U19 NOFV regional tournament and to test themselves against the women's Regionalliga-Nordost team from Türkiyemspor Berlin.
