100,000 euros to be awarded for social commitment

On 16 March 2026, the winners of the Sepp Herberger Awards 2026 will be honored in the VW Autostadt in Wolfsburg. Soccer organizations, individuals and judicial institutions can currently apply for the prestigious award, which is endowed with a total prize money of 100,000 euros.

Outstanding activities in handicap soccer, the resocialization of prisoners and cooperation between schools and clubs are honoured. In addition, the "Horst Eckel Prize" is awarded in the "Social Work" category in memory of world champion Horst Eckel, which recognizes commitment to footballers in need.

Organized soccer players (e.g. soccer clubs, individuals, association bodies) and justice institutions can submit practical examples that they have successfully implemented or started in 2025. Three proposals in each of the categories "Handicap Football", "Resocialization" and "School and Club" will receive the Sepp Herberger Award, which comes with a cash prize (1st place: 12,000 euros, 2nd place: 8,000 euros, 3rd place: 5,000 euros). The "Social Work" category is endowed with 12,500 euros. In addition, a special prize will be awarded to a soccer foundation (12,500 euros). The foundation committees are responsible for selecting the winners.
