Amateur soccer needs space for EVERYONE*

The gender asterisk is used below to designate roles (e.g. players, coaches, etc.) in order to visibly include girls, women, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people in Berlin amateur soccer as part of the "TEAM BERLIN REPLAY" strategy.

With " TEAM BERLIN REPLAY", the Berlin Football Association is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to make amateur soccer more open and to attract more girls, women, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people. The name "Replay" stands for conscious further development: building on the existing vision "ONE TEAM BERLIN" for more participation and diversity.

Nadine Grund: "Shaping conditions and requirements even better"

The new strategy was officially launched on December 5, 2025 as part of a tournament organized by the BFV girls' football project "Alle kicken mit" at Kurt-Schumacher-Grundschule. The children in attendance immediately put their own logo ideas for the strategy on paper. The girls' perspective, which is even less influenced by existing structures and thought patterns, provided valuable input and will be incorporated into the final version. The BFV will launch a tender for the design in the near future.

"Women's and girls' soccer in Berlin has great potential, especially thanks to very committed clubs that are doing a great job. As Team Berlin, we need to work together even more intensively to develop this potential and improve the conditions and requirements even further. Many thanks go to the dedicated project team, which, with the support of the DFB (DFB-Assist), has developed this strategy." With these words, Nadine Grund, Member of the Executive Committee for Women and Girls, underlines the importance of the new strategy. It comprises 43 measures in seven fields of action, ranging from the recruitment of new players to the empowerment of women* in office.

BFV President Bernd Schultz also emphasizes: "There is no such thing as 'female' and 'male' soccer. It is a soccer for everyone that we enjoy. In order to do justice to the growing interest and commitment of women and girls on and off the pitch, we will use the strategy to sustainably improve the framework conditions and requirements."

Why Replay?

Berlin is diverse - amateur soccer should reflect this. However, women* and girls* are underrepresented both on the pitch and in committees. This is where the strategy comes in: It wants to reflect the reality of urban society more strongly and facilitate access for everyone.

The central goals:

  • Open club culture: attracting and retaining players, coaches and officials through low-threshold offers, mentoring programs and safe spaces.

  • Open association structure: More women* in full-time and voluntary positions, leadership programs, mentoring and modern framework conditions for voluntary work.

  • Support referees: Special training courses, tandem models and networks for women* and girls*.

  • Increase visibility: "TEAM BERLIN REPLAY" campaign week, equal coverage, own competition logos and a soccer congress.

Measures with a signal effect

From the expansion of the "Girls' Football Day" to all districts and over-35 tournaments to coaching courses specifically for FLINTA* - the strategy focuses on concrete steps. The target quota of at least 30% women and 30% men on all BFV committees also remains a clear goal. The strategy will be published in 2025 and will initially run until 2029. Over the four years, the areas of action, measures and wording will be continuously evaluated and adjusted as necessary.

Nadine Grund: "We're not pressing pause, we're pressing play and continuing to drive Berlin's amateur soccer so that it grows and becomes more diverse. Everyone should find their place - that's why amateur soccer needs space for EVERYONE*." This leitmotif runs through all measures and makes it clear: TEAM BERLIN REPLAY is more than just a project, it is a commitment to diversity and equal opportunities.
