The 120-minute heat battle at the Mommsenstadion produced a new title winner! VSG Altglienicke Berlin and BFC Dynamo met in the final of the COSY-WASCH State Cup for men, which was held for the eleventh time as part of the nationwide "Amateur Finals Day". In front of 7,639 spectators, Altglienicke won the match against the title holders 2:1 n.V. and qualified for the first round of the DFB Cup by winning the cup.
Dynamo ice-cold, VSG with a late reward
At 11:30 a.m., referee Sven Schröder kicked off the final day of the amateur competition in Berlin and with it a match that was to be a tough one. In sunshine and 27 degrees, the players didn't need long to get up to operating temperature, which was immediately reflected in two quick chances for VSG against BFC, who were primarily on the counterattack. Many fans had already seen a Jonas Nietfeld shot that whizzed just wide of the left-hand triangle after two minutes, and Mehmet Ibrahimi also had a powerful long-range shot on target a few moments later, but BFC keeper Ortegel kept it out.
In the ninth minute, however, Altglienick's attacking start was to take its revenge: BFC were given too much space on the right during the transition play and used this to launch a counter-attack. A cross found Ivan Knezevic in the sixteen who, after a botched reception, managed to get the ball on target and volleyed it into the net - 1:0 for the title winners!
With the opening goal, BFC had found their feet in the match and were now playing more courageously going forward. An obscure situation following a failed Altglienick clearance was finally exploited by Leander Fritzsche, but his shot from a half-left position was parried (13'). VSG Altglienicke then continued their initially powerful attacking play, but Tim Rieder first failed to score with a chance following a defensive miscommunication (23') and later with a spectacular long-range shot almost from the spot (38'), both of which were saved by Ortegel. However, just as many players and fans thought it was half-time, the equalizer finally arrived: Sydney Sylla received the ball in a half-right position in the opposition penalty area and slotted it into the box (45.+2) - 1:1 at the break!
A heated battle full of chances
The second half began with a bang: after a foul in the Altglienick penalty area, referee Schröder awarded Dynamo a penalty kick. BFC striker Rufat Dadashov was substituted especially for the execution - and missed! VSG keeper and later "Man of the Match" Luis Zwick parried the half-high shot to the right (50'). The blue and white goalkeeper was also on hand five minutes later when Dynamo's Joey Breitfeld aimed too centrally from around 18 meters.
The firework of chances that the players produced on the pitch despite the heat continued. At the center of it all: VSG player Jonas Nietfeld. Within three minutes, he created three top-class chances to make it 2:1, but headed against the crossbar from close range after a corner kick (60'), failed to beat Ortegel with a powerful free-kick (61') and slipped past the ball with a low cross (63'). Shaken awake by this, BFC Dynamo now also invested more going forward again, but Leander Fritzsche also failed to score as he stormed into the penalty area from the right with a low shot that rolled just past the far corner (67'), as well as against VSG keeper Zwick, who did not allow himself to be turned in one-on-one, but cleared the ball in dire need (74').
