U14 juniors celebrate a strong end to the season at the national cup in Duisburg
Opening win after strong morale against Bayern II
A challenging opponent awaited them at the start: Bayern II. After falling behind early on, the Berliners showed great resilience and turned the game around impressively. A spectacular long-range shot from around 40 meters out equalized the score, before an excellently timed, deep pass and a bold run into the deep area led to the winning goal: After rounding the goalkeeper, the ball was slotted in for the acclaimed 2:1 final score.
Mature performance against Saxony-Anhalt
In the second game, Berlin faced Saxony-Anhalt, an opponent already familiar from the NOFV tournament. The Berlin team took the lead after a set piece, but had to concede the equalizer after a remarkable finish by their opponents. They responded promptly: before half-time, Berlin made it 2:1 after another excellent deep run and a determined finish through the goalkeeper's legs. A converted penalty kick in the second half finally decided the game 3:1.
Narrow defeat against Saxony despite great effort
The Berlin team also put in a committed performance in the third match against their equally well-known opponents from Saxony. In an intense, high-paced encounter, the Berliners created several good opportunities but were unable to capitalize on them. Despite great commitment and fighting spirit, the team was narrowly defeated 0:1.
Strong finish against Hesse secures fourth place
In the final game against Hesse, Berlin showed possibly its best performance of the tournament. With high intensity, clear sequences and great unity, they achieved a deserved 1:0 victory, which ultimately secured a strong fourth place. Even though they narrowly missed out on the podium, they were proud of a very successful tournament overall.
A season finale full of development and memories
In addition to the sporting achievements, the international cup was also a special experience for the players off the pitch. Throughout the days, they documented their shared moments, experiences and impressions. Memories that will hopefully stay with them for a long time.
Looking back, it was an outstandingly good season for the Berlin U14 juniors.
Association sports coach Lukas Fechner drew a very positive conclusion of the tournament and the entire season:
"The national cup was a very successful conclusion to an intensive and development-rich season. The players showed once again in Duisburg how much willingness to learn, team spirit and quality there is in this group. It was particularly pleasing to see how courageous and united they were in difficult situations. Fourth place is a strong performance, even if they just missed out on the podium. However, the development that the players have made over the entire season is crucial. Now we have to take the experience we have gained with us and take the next steps in our daily training work with diligence and enthusiasm."
The players were recruited from Hansa 07, Rixdorfer SV, 1. FC Union Berlin, Lichtenrader BC, Hertha BSC, SC Borsigwalde, Köpenicker FC and Rot-Weiß Viktoria Mitte.
