U16 juniors: Last test before Duisburg

After the team last met in Wannsee in January and won 5:3 in a match with the U15 juniors of VfB Berlin 1911, the three-country tournament in Grünberg was the last test before the DFB scouting tournament in Duisburg at the end of the season.

4:2 against Schleswig-Holstein

In the first game against Schleswig-Holstein, the Berlin U16 team played a cautious first period and fell 1:0 behind. Subsequently, the team was more aggressive in tackles and repeatedly won the ball early on. The Berliners took advantage of the transitional moments and turned the game around with goals from Hannah (3x) and Michaela (1x). Schleswig-Holstein reduced the deficit in the meantime, but were ultimately unable to prevent the Berlin team from winning 4:2.

0:3 against Hesse

The following day, they faced the hosts from Hesse. In the early stages of the game, both teams tried to play straightforwardly towards their opponents' goal, but this led to few scoring opportunities. The can opener for Hessen was a corner, which was not defended consistently by the Berlin team and found its way into the Berlin goal via the follow-up shot. The effective transitional play that Berlin had been able to showcase as one of their strengths in the first game was now displayed by the Hessians. The hosts first increased the lead to 0:2 and then to 0:3. Berlin were able to create a few more chances in the final third, but were unable to score.

The players were provided by: 1. FC Union Berlin, Hertha BSC, Nordberliner SC, FC Nordost.

In just two weeks, the Berlin U16 juniors will be heading to Duisburg for the DFB scouting tournament. All 21 state associations will be there to play for the best team in the age group and to show themselves to the DFB national team selectors.
