Jana Heyde and Nico Zündorf on behalf of the BFV’s “Club and Association Development & Schools Department”: “The basic idea behind the Club Workshop is to bring clubs together in decentralized locations to provide valuable expert insights on a specific topic on an equal footing, as well as to support exchange among the clubs using this platform and to facilitate the sharing of best-practice examples. This format is thus an integral part of the Team Berlin Strategy.”
The Club Workshop specifically combines content-driven input from the BFV, group work phases, and a structured process for documenting results. Karlos El-Khatib, from the Berlin State Sports Federation (Association and Engagement Development), led the working phase and guided participants through a volunteer cycle—focusing on planning/needs, recruitment, onboarding, support, recognition, and transitions of volunteers within the club. - “There should be a contact person for volunteers in the club (volunteer coordination)”
- “To recruit volunteers, it is important to approach them directly and provide clarity on the job description”
- “To attract young volunteers, the bylaws should be reviewed to ensure they allow for equal and voting participation for, for example, individuals under 18”
- “Distributing tasks among several people is crucial—especially on the board.”
- “Long-serving volunteers must also be given the opportunity and reassurance that it is okay to step down in order to facilitate a smooth transition.”
