All eyes on the sport! While Olympic winter sports medals were still being fought for in Milan and Cortina, Berlin club representatives were looking towards the Rotes Rathaus. There, on February 19, 2026, creative projects and exceptional commitment to club sport were awarded prizes. The Future Prize of Berlin Sport 2025 went to FC Internationale Berlin. The club was delighted to receive 7,000 euros in prize money and secured first place ahead of Berliner Athletik Klub 07, which came in second with 4,000 euros. Overall, the 20 best ideas and campaigns in Berlin club sport were honored by the Landessportbund Berlin and awarded 25,000 euros together with the LOTTO-Stiftung Berlin, Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) and Volkssolidarität Berlin.
"A building block for Berlin's progress"
Thomas Härtel, President of the Landessportbund Berlin, said at the award ceremony: "Progress means moving forward. We put our feet in front of each other and make progress. But we also lead the way when it comes to driving developments forward. And it is human nature to see this progress in a positive light, because we are actively shaping our future. In sport, we are convinced that progress, further development, is positive for our society as a whole. Sport brings us together. Sport keeps us active and healthy. In this sense, sports clubs work, they shape the future. We want to support this energy with the Future Prize of Berlin Sport. We also want to show how innovative Berlin's sports clubs are, how imaginative and motivated their members are in shaping our future. They are leading the way, they are a building block for Berlin's progress."
First place: FC Internationale Berlin 1980
For its ambitious commitment to climate protection with the "INTERgenerational Climate Captains" project, the club received the Future Prize of Berlin Sport, which is worth 7,000 euros. Twelve Climate Captains trained by the club launched environmentally friendly projects in five areas (CO₂ reduction, biodiversity, waste avoidance and recycling management, water consumption and communication) at the club last year. The measures adopted include a bicycle repair station and carpooling organization, greening concepts for the sports facility, waste separation systems and exchange racks, water-saving infrastructure and visible sustainability communication directly on the sports field. The results were presented within the club in October 2025 and communicated widely. Since 2021, FC Internationale has been the first sustainable amateur club in Germany to be certified.
Second place: Berliner Athletik Klub 07
Second place went to Berliner Athletik Klub 07, which specifically campaigned for tolerance, acceptance and against anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim racism as part of the nationwide "move2respect" initiative of the non-profit organization Makkabi Deutschland e. V. The core of the project was a tandem format that brought together Jewish and Muslim activists from the German Jewish community and the Berlin AK 07. The aim was to promote mutual understanding and enable the participants to independently implement measures for respect, diversity and cohesion in their clubs.
In addition, other BFV clubs took part with their soccer departments and finished in eleventh to 20th place.
