No time to take a deep breath
It was all set: A district derby in the cup, the best soccer weather, a sports facility filled with two vociferous fan camps and highly motivated, in-form teams. When referee Rasmus Jessen blew the whistle, the atmosphere already seemed to be at its peak, as the memorable eight-goal spectacle was still to come.
Given the extra motivation from the sidelines, it didn't take long for both teams to get up to operating temperature: Sparta's Meyer (9th) immediately countered 47's Graf to make it 1:1 by the tenth minute. However, that was nothing compared to the flurry of goals that followed from the 30th minute onwards, as events now came thick and fast: Hänsch (31) and Schmüser (37) gave Sparta a two-goal lead, before the visitors quickly pulled one back through Reiniger (39), only for the hosts to retake the two-goal lead just a minute later through Tonk (40) - 4-2 to SV Sparta at half-time.
The second half was to be characterized by suspense rather than spectacle. The visitors refused to concede defeat to their district neighbors and invested a lot in the game. The reward came in the 55th minute, when Gruber scored the final goal to make it 4:3. The 47ers' fans now kept their fingers crossed for the long-awaited equalizer. However, the next goal was to come from SV Sparta: It was Gampe who sealed the deal for the hosts in the 70th minute. Even a late yellow and red card for the "Spartans" did nothing to change that. The Lichtenberg cup derby was won 5:3 by the team from Fischerstrasse, who were duly celebrated by their fans afterwards.
