"Match of the day" on the Wacker pitch: VSG slays foxes

The COSY-WASCH state cup quarter-final on December 9, 2025 at the venerable Wackerplatz was a tense match: Füchse Reinickendorf hosted VSG Altglienicke in the early game of this round. After 90 minutes of cup action, the higher-ranked visitors narrowly prevailed 2:1. An evening with many playful and romantic soccer highlights will be remembered. A summary of the match can be found in the video review with commentary:

Foxes not snappy enough

The weather was fine, the sausages and burgers were ready and the floodlights were on full blast when referee Julius Hanft blew his whistle at 19:00 to start the "match of the day". The more than 150 spectators who had found their way to the Wackerplatz on a Tuesday evening were presented with a picture at the start of the game that was probably not entirely unexpected given the difference in class between the two leagues: regional league side Altglienicke largely dominated proceedings, while Berlin league leaders Reinickendorf did their best to hold their own. The result was numerous chances for the visitors, but most of them missed the target or were saved by the strong reaction of Füchse keeper Kevin Otremba. The Reinickendorf goalkeeper only had to reach behind him once in the first half: in the 18th minute, Tim Rieder poked the ball over the line after a corner to make it 1:0 at half-time from VSG's point of view.

Blow after blow

The Foxes revealed that they still wanted to have a real say in this game at the start of the second half. The hosts now acted with more determination and played on equal terms in the direction of the goal - courage that was to be rewarded, as after a miscommunication in the Altglienick defense, Victor Sunday was able to bend the ball into the orphaned goal completely free to equalize the score at 1:1 (68'). Was the Berlin league team about to pull off a coup? VSG player Jonas Nietfeld had something against it: less than three minutes after equalizing, the Altglienick player headed the ball back into the lead (1:2, 71'). As promising chances were subsequently missed by both sides, the 1-2 scoreline was also the final score. The 2020 title winners are therefore the first team in the competition to reach the semi-finals.

The remaining three quarter-final matches will continue on December 20 and 21, 2025: Overview of the men's 1st quarter-finals.
