Action weeks against anti-Muslim racism

July 1 is the day against anti-Muslim racism. Since 2013, Marwa El-Sherbini, who was murdered in Dresden District Court on July 1, 2009 out of anti-Muslim hatred, has been remembered nationwide on this day. Since then, this day has not only stood for remembrance, but also for the determined commitment to a solidary, open and democratic society.

As part of the nationwide action weeks against anti-Muslim racism, which will take place this year from 17 June to 1 July and are organized by CLAIM - Alliance against Islamophobia and Muslimophobia , several events will also take place in Berlin.

On June 26, a discussion evening entitled "Not safe, not welcome? Islamophobia in Germany" in the Bundestag to shed light on the alarming increase in Islamophobia, give those affected a voice and jointly develop political perspectives for action. Two days later, on June 28, there will be a rally under the motto "No to Islamophobia - No place for racism!", which will send a clear signal against exclusion and for social cohesion.

With an information stand on Maybachufer and the evening program "What racism does to us" at the Teiba cultural center, anti-Muslim discrimination will be made visible on 1 July - through encounters, information and joint empowerment, those affected will be strengthened, allies gained and a clear signal against racism sent.

The action weeks and July 1 as a nationwide day of remembrance and action call on people not to look away, but to make anti-Muslim racism visible and to take a firm stand against it. The Berlin Football Association is also taking part in the call to attend the events, to inform oneself, to take a stand and to actively oppose discrimination.
