Europe visits Berlin

Over the long Ascension weekend in 2025, the U15 junior girls (born in 2010) from the soccer associations in Prague and Paris were guests at the Sportschule Wannsee for the Tournament of the Three Capitals. After the first edition of the tournament was held in Paris last year as part of the supporting program for the 2024 Olympic Games, the Berlin Football Association invited the two teams to Berlin.

Exciting tournament

Paris, Prague and Berlin played the tournament in an "each-against-each" league format - the first round was played on Thursday and the second round on Saturday.

In the opening game, Prague showed their physical assertiveness in offense and quickly took a 2:0 lead against Paris. The Parisians reduced the deficit shortly before the end of the game, but were unable to take anything tangible home with them. Berlin's first two appearances were only rewarded with one point each. Against Prague, chances were not taken on either side - final score: 0:0. In the game against Paris, they had more chances, but had to chase a deficit after losing the ball early on. The Berliners kept going forward until Michaela Ahlberg made it 1:1 with five minutes to go.

This meant that anything was still possible for the three teams on the second day of the tournament, but Prague dominated the action. First, the team beat Paris 3:1, then they took a quick lead against Berlin and finally won the tournament 4:1. The final match between Berlin and Paris was therefore a fight for second place. Nevertheless, nothing was given away. Paris took the lead early on with a penalty in a fiercely contested match. Darya Rockstroh's equalizer gave the Berlin team some hope, but the visitors scored the decisive goal to win 2:1.

The results at a glance:

Prague - Paris 2:1
Berlin - Prague 0:0
Paris - Berlin 1:1
Paris - Prague 1:3
Prague - Berlin 4:1
Berlin - Paris 1:2

Table:

1st Prague - 10 points - 9:3 goals
2nd Paris - 4 points - 5:7 goals
3rd Berlin - 2 points - 3:7 goals

A lot to get to know

In addition to the sporting competition, the focus was on the exchange between the players and getting to know the city for the guests. On Thursday evening, they went on a tour of the Olympic Stadium. Friday's program included a boat tour on the Spree and a visit to the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie. As a finale for the players, delegation and staff, the barbecue was fired up at the Wannsee sports school on Saturday evening - the Parisians were then able to cheer several times while watching the men's Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan together.

Association sports coach Falko Grothe summed up: "It was a very demanding competition for our players. On the first day of the tournament, we created numerous good situations with courage and self-confidence, but were not clear and efficient enough in the final third. It was a different story on the second day of the tournament: we were no longer able to bring our strengths to the pitch and were unable to find a way to counter the physical presence and ruthless style of play of the two teams. For the players, these were challenging situations that allowed them to grow, making it a good experience to face opponents of this level. Prague was the best team in the tournament and deserved to win - congratulations!"

The tournament also marks the official end of the 2010 season. This year's squad will now go into the trials for the new U16 national selection in the summer.

The players were selected by: 1. FC Union Berlin, BW Berolina Mitte, Eintracht Mahlsdorf, Hertha BSC, Nordberliner SC, Rotation Prenzlauer Berg, RW Viktoria Mitte.
