Negotiations are currently underway at federal level to shape the 500 billion special fund for investment in infrastructure and to achieve climate neutrality. The federal states are to receive EUR 100 billion from this fund to invest in their own infrastructure and that of their municipalities.
Against this backdrop, the Berlin Football Association very much welcomes the decision of the Conference of Minister Presidents on June 18, 2025 that the federal states can also use funds from the share of the special fund allocated to them for investments in sports facilities and calls on political representatives to ensure that sport is not neglected in the allocation of funds compared to other areas. To this end, the BFV sent a letter to the decision-makers in Berlin politics last week.
The most important contents of the letter summarized:
Situation in Berlin:
Many sports facilities are in need of renovation, dilapidated and not fit for the future
There is a lack of around 100 large playing fields suitable for competitions with functional buildings
Renovation needs include synthetic turf, changing rooms, sanitary facilities and clubhouses
The existing sports facility renovation program (SSP) is not financially sufficient
Social significance:
Over 2,800 sports clubs with 810,000 memberships in Berlin (over 20% of the population)
BFV organizes 245,000 people - the largest professional association in Berlin sports
Soccer has an integrative, inclusive and health-promoting effect - part of the social infrastructure
These points result in the BFV's appeal to the decision-makers in politics to personally advocate for a significant use of funds in favor of the sports facility infrastructure in Berlin and thus also to strengthen social cohesion through investments in sports.
